24-Hour Hotline - Trained volunteer serve as
supportive counselors for the hotline after the successful completion of our 6-week training program. Need to speak Korean
fluently. With back up support from counseling staff, volunteers answer hotline in the evening hours and on weekends.
Advocacy Program - Bilingual volunteers accompany
clients to court to obtain Orders of Protection, child support, child custody, etc. In addition to providing interpretation
services, volunteers actively advocate for the rights of our clients at court and welfare offices. Also, volunteers help
clients with public aid applications. If you have legal background or are interested in becoming a court interpreter for our
clients, this is a great opportunity!
Community Outreach - Volunteers are encouraged to
write newspaper and journal articles about our organization.
ESL Program - Volunteers teach free English classes
for Korean women interested in improving their English proficiency.
Hodori After- School Program - Volunteers support
staff in the after-school program for Korean/Asian children age 6 to 12 with special emotional needs.
Mentoring Program - KAFSC provides a community
based one-on-one mentoring program to young Korean-Americans of 7-18 years of age. Mentors are Korean American professionals
or graduate students, over 21 years old, who can be a positive role-model for our youth and who can assist youth in
developing communication, social and leadership skills as well as their future/career interests. We will interview potential
mentors that match our youth clients' needs, such as common interests, background, and future goals. After careful
screening, we will match a mentor with a youth client.
ESL Program - Volunteers teach free English classes
for Korean women interested in improving their English proficiency.
Administrative Support - Organizing files, updating
our mailing lists, compiling data, financial assistance, and creating databases that will maintain our records.
Newsletters, brochures, and journals - Volunteers
with graphic design experience can help staff create the layout for special event invitations, journals, brochures, and
newsletters. Bilingual volunteers can help staff translate content for articles and other agency materials.
Technology Support - Providing assistance in
technology issues such as networking, internet access, website design, hardware purchase, and software installation.
Volunteer Committees: Fundraising - To raise funds for KAFSC by
organizing fundraising events throughout the year, including the annual benefit dinner, and creating new avenues for
generating funds
Marketing and Public Relations - To increase
awareness of KAFSC throughout New York metro area and beyond, support KAFSC staff in marketing programs and services,
including materials, Web site, events and community outreach.
Finance - To assist KAFSC maintain fiscally
balanced by donating professional expertise and services
Program - To assist KAFSC develop new programs
addressing emerging issues in the community or/and enhance quality of current programs
